One of Ohio's Most Livable Communities

....Police Activity and
    Responsibility....

The City of Mount Vernon has grown from 6.44 square miles, in 1990, to 8.77 square miles at the end of 1999. This is more than 36% increase. Naturally, the growth impacts the available resources because the expansions are to the outer extremes of the City limits at the time of each annexation.

The Mount Vernon Police Department, while not an all inclusive list, responded to the following activities:

The year 2000 will see a continued increase in many of the "response" statistics.

The City Administration, and the Mount Vernon Police Department, recognizes that additional staff and new, or modified, strategies will be required to continue the high level of Law Enforcement service to the community. Additional Officers are being considered, as well as the necessary equipment and training, during the budget process.
