A zoning permit is required for all
improvements except installation of
siding; roof shingles; replacement doors and windows;
and work inside a structure. The permit must
be obtained before work is started on the project.
When applying for a permit you need (as a minimum)
to bring in the following items. You may be required
to provide additional information depending on the
scope of your project. Please call the Department
before you come in to apply to see if you will need
to bring additional information.

Detailed sketch of the improvement showing
measurements of the improvement and distances from the
property
2.
Legal description of the property. The
easiest places to find this information is on your deed
or your property tax slip.
3.
Name and address of the contractor.
4.
Estimated cost of the improvement.
Board of Zoning Appeals. All applications
for hearing before the Board are processed through
the Engineering Department and questions may be directed

Utility
Permits - Water and Wastewater Taps
A tapping permit is required for any
new connection to the main lines. The fee for these
permits are subject to change without notice and we
recommend that you call and check the fee before you
come in to apply for a permit.
When applying for a permit you will need the name
and address of the contractor. In some area abutting
the City you will need to bring written permission
from either the Knox County Commissioners or the Clinton
Township Trustees before a permit can be issued.
Street
Opening Permit
A street opening permit is required
any time work is performed in the public right of
way. The cost for the permit is a $50.00 application
fee and a minimum deposit of $1,000.00. The deposit
is refundable provided that the work is completed
in accordance with the City's specifications.
The permit requires that you submit any drawings for
the proposed work as well as the name and address
of the contractor performing the work.
Stormwater
Management Permit
A stormwater management permit is
required for any activities that displace more than
20,000 square feet of earth. Please contact the Department,
as detailed information is required for this permit
application.
